President Mohamed Abdelaziz felicitates Saharawi people on 39th anniversary of armed struggle outbreak

Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), May 21, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, has felicitated the Saharawi people on the double anniversary: thirty-ninth of the outbreak of armed struggle and seventh of outbreak of peaceful uprising in occupied Western Sahara, reaffirming “the Saharawi people remain more resolute than ever to continue the battle for freedom and dignity,” in a speech delivered Sunday marking the event which coincides with May 20 every year.


“Today, the Saharawi people remain, after nearly forty years since the outbreak of the first spark of armed struggle, more determined than ever to continue their battle for freedom and dignity,” said President Mohamed Abdelaziz, adding that the Saharawi people remains also adhere to their national option and to an independent Sahrawi state as the solution.


“Outbreak of armed struggle in Western Sahara was a culmination of long path of national resistance over the ages and a natural consequence to series of national, regional and international field developments, most notably Zemla Uprising on 17 June 2012 under leadership of the missing Sid Brahim Basiri, put the Saharawi people at the forefront to take the lead as to initiate a comprehensive national effort, unite their energies and melt all their components in a sole national project, which is to establish a state for all the Saharawis, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, independent and fully sovereign over its national territory,” underlined Secretary General of the POLISARIO.


He hailed the Saharawi people as a whole in the refugee camps and occupied territories of Western Sahara, “who knew how to withstand, despite the harsh conditions and many difficulties, in the face of the shameful policies and maneuvers of enemy and his desperate attempts to distort their unity, conviction and firm belief to their just and legitimate rights,” said Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz.


Saharawi President also highly praised and appreciated the Saharawi People's Liberation Army, who registered the finest pages in the history of the liberation wars, and presented to the whole world unique lessons in meeting all the odds and face the hardest risks. In addition, they innovated the effective ways and methods to counter a barbaric aggression led by the Moroccan authorities of occupation to pursue a policy of real genocide against the Saharawi people.

Moreover, he expressed warm gratitude and appreciation to the brothers, allies and friends in all parts of the world, who had and still supported the just struggle of our people, led by Algeria of pride and dignity, Algeria of the principled positions along with application of the right and requirements of international law to ensure the sacred right of peoples to freedom, self-determination and independence."
