Workshop on Western Sahara on the sidelines of BUKO 34th Congress

Erfurt (Germany), May 20, 2012 (SPS) - A workshop under the title: “Western Sahara- the fight for independence and the threat of new war” organized Friday in the city of Erfurt, southern Germany, on the sidelines of works of the 34th congress of the Federal Coordination of Internationalism (known as BUKO) took place on current May 18-19, in the presence of a delegation representing the Saharawi Students Union (UESARIO).


The workshop supervised by members of UESARIO delegation and German sympathizers with the Saharawi cause from the German youth group for Western Sahara “Projektgruppe Westsahara”.


During the workshop, representatives of UESARIO presented a detailed explanation of the most important stages in the Sahrawi people’s liberation struggle including no peace and no war period that followed the cease-fire agreement, as well as the experience of Saharawi civil society and the work of the Saharawi Students Union and its role in the civil field.


The workshops marked a number of interventions that focused on the international responsibility towards the decolonization of Africa’s last colony and human rights violations in occupied Western Sahara, in addition to the role of Saharawi woman and civil society in the struggle for liberation anf independence.


It also discussed the promotion of a solidarity network with the Saharawi people in Germany.


It should be recalled that a delegation of the Saharawi Students Union comprised of member of its Executive Office, Saleh Sid Bachir, along with the member Tagla Mohamed Lamin , arrived last Sunday in Berlin as a part of European tour. (SPS)
