Sahara International Film Festival 2012 opens in Wilaya of Dakhla

Dakhla (refugee camps), May 2, 2012 (SPS) - Ninth edition of the International Film Festival in Western Sahara, known as FiSahara, opened Wednesday afternoon in the Wilaya of Dakhla, Saharawi refugee camps, in the presence of foreign actors, producers, directors and press correspondents.
 

During her opening speech, Minister of Culture underlined that this edition is for the solidarity with the three European cooperators, who have been kidnapped on last October in the Saharawi refugee camps.
 

Addressing 9th FiSahara, Prime Minister Abdelkader Taleb Omar hailed the spirit of solidarity demonstrated by the Spanish civil society towards the Saharawi cause, expressing that Madrid new government would play a pivotal role in finding a just political solution to the conflict of Western Sahara, in accordance with its historic and ethic responsibilities.”
 

In an interview with SPS, source of the organizing committee revealed that the number of the foreign participants exceeded 160, when the number is expecting to increase to reach 320 figures including actors and producers.
 

Mexico is present in this year edition as a guest of honour. 2012 FiSahara is characterized by the presence of delegations from South Africa, Venezuela, Spain, France, Algeria, Italy, Brazil, Colombia, Austria and others, the same source added.
 

FiSahara is an annual international festival held in the aim to help the Saharawi refugees bring international attention to their long-term suffering and plight by engaging and informing the film community and the international media. (SPS)
