Submitted on

Brazil, April 22, 2012 (SPS) - Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (TUCA) has strongly condemned “the gross and systematic violations of human rights and pillaging natural resources carried by the Kingdom of Morocco in occupied Western Sahara,” in a resolution approved by its second conference held Agatha Vith’s city (Brazil) from April 17 to 20, according to the Saharawi embassy of mission to Brazil.

The resolution called on UN chief to assign the MINURSO with the power to protect and ensure situation of the Saharawi citizens as well as open the territory, which is under its direct responsibility, before international observers and independent media.

The Confederation expressed “unconditional solidarity with struggle of the Saharawi people,” asking the United Nations, through its mission MINURSO, to organize a speed referendum of decolonization in Western Sahara.

It also expressed solidarity with the Saharawi workers who suffer from daily continued abuses by the Moroccan Kingdom to their basic rights, considering its presence in Western Sahara “illegal.”

The resolution appealed to the UN and countries of the world to recognize the Saharawi Republic and contribute to the decolonization process of Western Sahara.

Works of the Conference were attended by a Saharawi delegation led by the Ambassador in charge of mission in Brazil, Mr. Hamdi Abayha, member of Latin American Department of Foreign Ministry, Mr. Lagdef Karim.

TUCA was established in 2008 in Panama. It includes 59 trade unions from 27 Americas countries representing about 50 millions workers. (SPS)
