Brussels, April 11, 2012 (SPS) - The Secretary General of the International Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), George Mavrikos, said on Tuesday that his organization supports the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination "as other peoples of the world”.

George Mavrikos stated that "everyone has the right to decide his own destiny without interference from the other", referring to the protest and withdrawal of the Moroccan delegation during the speech of Secretary General of Union Confederation of Saharawi Workers at conference on North Africa, Middle East and  Arab world organized by IFTU with the participation of the European Parliament in Brussels.

“We must respect our principles, we believe that all people will decide their own destiny, and these are the foundations of our organization, "he added.

"Our relationship with the Polisario Front is not something new," said George, noting "we are well aware of the nature of this conflict and the positions of various parties."

The Moroccan delegation tried to disturb the speech of SG of Union Confederation of Saharawi Workers, Mohamed Cheikh, before it decided to withdraw from the conference.

At the end of his speech, SG of the Union Confederation of Saharawi Workers received greetings and congratulations from several trade unions taking part at the conference. (SPS)
