Council of Ministers expresses deep concern over deteriorating situation of Saharawi political prisoners (Statement

Shahid Al Hafed (refugee camps) April 07, 2011 (SPS) - The Council of Ministers has expressed deep concern on the grave situation of the Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails, strongly condemning the brutality of the occupation authorities, according to statement sanctioning a meeting of the Council held today under chairmanship of President of Republic Mohamed Abdelaziz.

 


“Council of Ministers has discussed status the quo in occupied territories and south of Morocco, expressing its strong condemnation to the acts of brutality carried out by the Moroccan authorities of occupation against the Sahrawi defenseless masses”, the statement highlighted.

 


It expressed concern over the deteriorating situation of Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails.

 


In this regard, the council called on the international community to assume fully responsible to the gross human rights violations taking place in occupied Western Sahara.

 


“UN Security Council debate on Western Sahara is an opportunity to push negotiations path to reach last and fair solution to the conflict allows the Saharawi people to freely decide their future” said the statement.

 


“Necessary measures should be taken for a permanent and serious follow up of the human rights situation in occupied territories through expanding the MINURSO mandate to respond to this task, which became a necessity” it added.

 


Council of Ministers urged the international community to put an end to the looting of Western Sahara natural resources, hailing the positions of countries and political forces which adopt clear position in this case through opposing any treaties with Moroccan occupation.

 


It stressed the international community’s responsible to release the Saharawi political prisoner, Yahya Mohamed Al Hafed Iaaza and all political prisoners, disclosure of the fate of more than 651 disappeared at the hands of Morocco and dismantling of the Moroccan wall of shame.

 


The council heard summaries on the Government Programme and negotiations path provided by Prime Minister and Speaker of National Council (head of negotiating delegation).

 


In this context, President of the Republic affirmed the importance of 2012 governmental programme as it embodies the significant decisions of  the 13 Congress of  Polisario Front. (SPS)
