June 9th School (refugee camps), Feb 13, 2012 (SPS) - “The preparatory conferences for the elections of the Saharawi National Council (Parliament) will be started next Saturday, Feb 18, in all wilayas and institutions of the Saharawi Republic, while it will be officially inaugurated on Feb 27 coinciding with the commemoration of the SADR Proclamation in the liberated Tifariti,” informed a source of the Preparatory Committee.
In a meeting held Sunday in the June 9th School chaired by its President Mr. Mhamed Khadda, the committee declared that the political conferences will be held on 18-19-20 February, before electing members of the Saharawi Parliament at the 11 constituencies, to announce the final results of the elections on Feb 21.
It also revealed that the numbers of candidates to the membership of the Saharawi National Council reached 158, highlighting in a relevant context that each candidate has the right to make an electoral campaign in the local media.
The Saharawi National Council consists of 52 members including its president, which is a member of the National Secretariat of the Frente Polisario, as required by the Saharawi Constitution. (SPS)
