AU Permanent Representatives Committee calls for human rights monitoring in occupied Western Sahara

Addis Abeba, Jan 24, 2012 (SPS) - Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) of the African Union has called for monitoring human rights in occupied Western Sahara, during its Twenty third ordinary session opened Monday in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia .

 

PRC asked the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights to provide constant informations on the developments taking place in occupied Western Sahara.

 

SADR Ambassador to Ethiopia and Premenent Repersentative to AU, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar condemned "the deteriorating human rights situation in occupied Western Sahara."

 

He urged African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights to strengthen its efforts in monitoring and protecting human rights in occupied territories.

 

Meanwhile, ambassadors of Tanzania, South Africa and Uganda stressed the human rights situation in Western Sahara should always be on the AU agenda. (SPS)
