Peaceful protests continue for the third day in occupied Smara

Smara (occupied territories), Jan 15, 2012 (SPS) - Peaceful protests demanding right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and release of the Saharawi political prisoners continues for the third consecutive day in Tan Tan’s quarter, occupied city of Smara, despite the repeated interventions of the Moroccan occupation forces, reported a source of the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.

In Tan Tan quarter, the demonstrators raised flag of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic and chanted national slogans that call for the respect of Saharawi people’s right to self-determination and the release the Saharawi political detainees of Gdeim Izik.

Moroccan forces brutally intervened to disperse the Saharawi protestors using insults and beating with sticks, leaving several injuries among the Saharawi citizens and raids on houses.

The occupied city of El Aaiun witnessed demonstrations denouncing the postponement of trail of the Saharawi political prisoners in Sale’s jail, but Moroccan repression authorities violently intervened against them, leaving more than 40 Saharawi injured. (SPS)
