Tifariti (liberated territories) Dec 16, 2011 (SPS) - Representative of the AU Commission, Mr. Diallo Boubacar, has confirmed that the African Union will support all the decisions to be taken by the 13 Congress of the Frente Polisario that leads to find a peaceful solution to the Saharawi cause, reiterating AU’s determination to continue supporting the efforts of the Saharawi government and people to lift the impasse over the settlement course in Western Sahara.
The African official expressed the support and encouragement of the African Commission to the struggle waged by the Frente Polisario to complete the liberation of Western Sahara, expressing satisfaction at the continuation of the Polisario Front to prefer the peaceful methods despite the fact that 20 years have passed since the sign of a ceasefire agreement and despite that there has not achieved any significant and encouraging progress to end this conflict ever since.
He praised the political courage of the Polisario and the SADR leadership to hard insist on defending the Saharawi people’s cause and provide all the necessary sacrifices that command respect and admiration.
Mr. Boubacar indicated that the Saharwi cause is registered in the agenda of all meetings of the organization and especially the Summit of Heads of States and Governments of the African Union.
He added that the AU has called on numerous occasions on the United Nations to implement resolutions of the Security Council on the Saharawi question that call for the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and to achieve freedom, as the last colony in Africa.
“AU considers that the stalemate on the question of Western Sahara should not continue. So I hope that discussions you will have during the coming five days of your Congress will come up with concrete decisions and initiatives to accelerate the resolution of this conflict," says Mr. Boubacar.
He therefore strongly denounced gross violations committed by Morocco in the occupied Western Sahara and its plundering of Saharawi natural resources.
It should be recalled that Dr. John Ping, Chairman of AU Commission, along with AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, Mr. Ramadan Lamamra, visited on Tuesday the Saharawi refugee camps and Western Sahara liberated territories. (SPS)
