Lima, Nov 19, 2011 (SPS) - The Vice-President of the Andino Parliament, Mr. Alberto Adrianzén Merino, asserted Friday that he is in favor of the re-establishment of the diplomatic relations between Peru and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), in a meeting with the Minister Delegate of SADR in charge of Latin America, Mr. Hach Ahmed, and Mr. Sidi Alisalem Zein, ambassador in charge of mission to Lime, according to Peruvian news agency (Andina).
The Saharawi Minister expressed his best wishes for the success of the President Ollanta Humala in his management, expressing hope for a speedy re-establishment of the diplomatic relations with Peru that were frozen during the government of President Fujimori.
From his part, Andean Parliament’s vice-president expressed solidarity with the Saharawi cause as well as his commitment to support a just solution for the Western Sahara conflict based on the respect for the principle of self-determination of peoples, the Peruvian agency writes.
He therefore recalled that there is a multiparty agreement of Congress, in an earlier law, in order to correct the arbitrary suspension of full diplomatic relations between both countries.
The Sahrawi Republic has been incorporated into the Andino Parliament as an observer member.
It may be recalled that Peru recognized the SADR on August 16, 1984, but relations were unfair and unilaterally suspended in 1996 by the government of Alberto Fujimori. (SPS)
