President Mohamed Abdelaziz calls on Ban Ki-moon to urgently intervene to save lives of Saharawi prisoners on hunger strike

Bir Lehlou (refugee camps) Nov 15, 2011 (SPS) -The SADR President and Secretary General the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, has called  on the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, to immediately intervene to save lives of Saharawi political prisoners on hunger strike in Moroccan prison of Salé, Morocco.

 

In letter to Ki-moon reached Mondy SPS, The President  of the Republic drew attention to the “grave situation” of the Saharawi political prisoners, holding the Moroccan government fully responsible for an imminent catastrophe, calling on the United Nations to shoulder its responsibility in ensuring the safety and physical and psychological integrity of Sahrawi political prisoners and citizens in general.

He emphasized the need to expand the powers of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara, MINURSO, to include the protection, monitoring and reporting on human rights.

 

The President  Mohamed Abdelaziz renewed the call for the necessary steps and sanctions to make the Moroccan government releases all Saharawi political prisoners and reveals the fate of more than 651 missing Sahrawi in the hands of the Moroccan State.

 

23 Saharawi prisoners in Salé (Morocco) began an unlimited hunger strike since Oct 23, to protest against their conditions, demand their release or a fair trial and respect for their rights in this prison.

 

The political prisoners arrested during the Moroccan attack on Gdeim Izik camp, are subjecting to military trails in Sale (near Rabat).

 

According to Ministry of Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad, Total of 79 Saharawi political detainees are currently incarcerating in the Moroccan prisons in cruel conditions. (SPS)
