Mass demonstration in Madrid to denounce the Tripartite Madrid Accords

Madrid, Nov 13, 2011 (SPS) - The Spanish movement of solidarity with the Saharawi people organized Saturday mass demonstration to denounce the Tripartite Madrid Accords, on the occasion of its 36th anniversary, with the participation of thousands of Spanish citizens, representatives of political parties, organizations and associations, as well as Saharawi community.

The demonstration was also attended by a delegation of the Polisario Front composed of: Representative in Spain, Bchraya Hamudi Bayun, Minister of Cooperation, Salek Baba Hasana, Vice-President of the Saharawi National Council, Mbarek Lehdeib, and Saharawi human rights activists from the occupied part of Western Sahara.

Speakers during the demonstration drew the attention of the participants to the scenes of tyranny and repression suffered by the Saharawis in Gdeim Izik camps, pointing to the violence experienced against the Saharawi peaceful protest due to the Moroccan repression policies against the Saharawi element, who deprive from the right to protest, assembly and association.

In their communiqué, the demonstrators said that the first spark of the Arab spring saw the light in Gdeim Izik camp, as a bold and courageous step by the Saharawis elderly, young, men and women.

The Spanish associations recalled that the government of Spain is obliged legally and morally as a governing power to enable the Saharawi people to exercise their right of the free and democratic expression to solve the Western Sahara conflict as to put an end to the suffering in the occupied territories.

The demonstrators, who came from the 17 Spanish provinces, expressed solidarity with the Saharawi people and their just cause, denouncing the abduction of the 3 cooperators from the Saharawi refugee camps on October 22, 2011.

Speaking to in the demonstration, the Saharawi minister of cooperation expressed thanks and recognition to Spanish political parties, associations, organizations, movements of civil society and the Saharawi community for their active participations in the demonstration.

The demonstration, which is marking the 36th anniversary of the Tripartite Madrid Accords, was organized by the General Coordination of the Associations supporting the Saharawi people and civilian movement to support the referendum in Western Sahara under the motto: vote for the independence of Western Sahara and for the liberation of the Saharawi political prisoners.
