Prime Minister oversees inauguration of the National School of Music

February 27th School (refugee camps), Nov 12, 2011 (SPS) - The Prime Minister, Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar, overseen Thursday the inauguration of the National School of Music at February 27th School, in the presence of members of the National Secretariat and government along with representatives from Algeria, Spain and USA.

In his intervention, Prime Minister said that the Saharawi music is “a tool for conveying message of the Saharawi people,” underlying that the knowledge for the Saharawi music is “a knowledge of the Saharawi society.”

From her part, Ms. Khadija Hamdi, minister of culture, emphasized on the role of music in “maintaining the cultural identity of the Saharawi people throughout their struggle against the enemy.”

Representative of the Algerian Ministry of Culture, Mohamed Ben Moussa, stressed on the necessity to protect and promote the pure Saharawi music and ways to made the efforts at all areas relating to the field.”

Mr. Manuel Dominguez, production manager of the Saharawi singer Maryam Hassan, said that the Saharawi music is one of the main pillars to maintain the cultural identity of the Saharawi people throughout their struggle for self-determination and independence. (SPS)
