Son of Sahrawi human rights defender Aminatou Haidar threatened with rape

El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), November 8, 2011 (SPS) – The son of Sahrawi human rights defender Aminatou Haidar, minor Mohammed Al Qasimi, 15, was subjected October 29, to threats with rape and suffering a permanent disability by two Moroccan policemen near his family's home in Al Kudos neighborhood in the occupied city of El Aaiun, according to a statement of the Collective of Sahrawi Human rights Defenders (CODESA).

 

Sahrawi human rights defender Aminatou Haidar, mother of the minor, confirmed that Moroccan policeman Mohammed Al hasouni was the first to stop her son and threatening with physical assault to make him suffer a permanent disability, while the other policeman Abdelali Rachidi threatened him with rape after verbally assaulted him using offensive words and shameful to the dignity of a minor child. "

 

Aminatou Haidar expressed "fear of targets of revenge behind these attacks, which tried to affect her son's right to life and physical safety, as she is a Sahrawi defender of human rights who had been subjected to many abuses and harassments, because of her position concerning the question of Western Sahara for the right of Sahrawi people to self-determination."

 

She also wrote to the Moroccan official authorities to ask them to investigate the case in order not to let escape of punishment those responsible. (SPS)
