Algiers, Oct 30, 2011 (SPS) - The President of the Lebanese National Audiovisual Media Council, Mr. Abdel-Hadi Mahfouz, has recognized that the Lebanon and predominantly the Arab media “is deficient in the right of the Saharawi people and its just cause,” underlying that many in the Orient do not know much about the situation of the Saharawi people, in an interview with the Algerian newspaper “Al-Khabar”.
“We see the presence of representatives from Lebanon in the Conference to support the Saharawi people, despite the fact that the Saharawi cause does not have an interest at the official and even media level inside Lebanon,” said Mr. Mahfouz, on the sidelines of his participation in the 2nd international conference on the peoples’ right to resistance: case of the Saharawi people held in Algiers.
He noted that this great deficient in the case of the Polisario Front in the Arab Orient due to the fact that many people “do not know the truth of the Saharawi people cause and the necessity to have a territory and total sovereignty,” pointing out that the Martyr Alwali tried to speak about the cause of the Saharawi people through the Lebanese media.
He on other hand considered that this Conference, which is being organized by Algeria and the committee of solidarity with the Saharawi people, is “an important media event so it is attended by distinguished figures, intellectual and politicians from different continents, in addition it being held in land of Algeria, which is known by its standing with liberation movements, and has a great moral value in the Orient, especially in Lebanon.”
The Lebanese official said that there is a kind of neglect to the cause of the Saharawi people by international institutions, especially by the Arab League.
“We hope the situation would change, the Saharawi people would be enabled to exercise the right of self-determination through free referendum and Morocco will understand and recognize their right,” he added. (SPS)
