Italian Parliamentary Group for Western Sahara reaffirms support to the Saharawi cause

Rome (Italy), Sept 21, 2011 (SPS) - The Coordinator of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with the Saharawi people, Ms. Carmen Motta, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Group to support the Saharawi cause, in a meeting with the Saharawi human rights activist, Brahim Dahane, who is in Italy to participate on the third European Conference of Towns supporting Western Sahara people, informed Tuesday the Jaima Saharawi Association.



During the meeting, the Saharawi activist spoke about the difficult situation of the Saharawis in the occupied part of Western Sahara since more than 35 years.

In this context, Ms. Motta renewed commitment to work for promoting human rights in Western Sahara, stressing on “the necessity and importance of the participation of largest number of the Italian institutions and civil society movement in the supporting of the fundamental rights of the Saharawi people.”

It is expected that Mr. Brahim Dahane addresses Wednesday the situation of human rights in Western Sahara in a debate on “Arab spring” organized by the Italian municipality of Albinea (Emilia Romagna) and Saharawi Jaima Association. (SPS)
