African strategy of solidarity with Sahrawi people adopted

Algiers, June 22, 2011 (SPS) - The members of United Cities and Local Governments of Africa has adopted Tuesday in Algiers a strategic document on the measures that African states supporting the Sahrawi cause should adopt to speed up the liberation of the last colony in Africa.



The development of this document takes place in preparation for the tripartite meeting Algeria- South Africa-Nigeria, planned September in solidarity with the Saharawi people.

The document provides in detail the aspects of support for the Saharawi question through the media, government, diplomacy and international law, according to the director of the North Africa department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Africa, Makina Zanella .

For Tayeb Zitouni, vice president of the organization, the document is intended to "give the Saharawi question an African dimension" while associating the African governments with the defense of the legitimate demands of the Sahrawi people in the international forums.

Action is underway to attract more number of cities in North Africa to show solidarity with the Saharawi cause, he added saying that Tunis "expressed wish to join the organization." for South Africa official, the position of South Africa on the liberation of the Sahrawi territories is "firm and irreversible" stressing that her country was ready to "compromise its relations with Morocco if necessary."

The South African government "will not hesitate to take the side of justice and continue to express its support for this humanitarian issue," she said.

With regard to conditions in the Saharawi refugee camps and the liberated territories, the same official lamented the difficult conditions in the Sahrawis live because of "the obstinacy of Moroccan officials."
