Timor-leste reiterates support to Saharawi people’s right in self determination

Bali (Indonesia) June 1, 2011 (SPS)- The Minister for Foreign Affairs of RDTL, Zacarias Albano da Costa has reiterated his country’s support to the invariable right of the Saharawi people in self determination.

Speaking in Bali, where he was attending the 16th Non-Aligned Movement’s (NAM)  Ministerial Conference, held 23-27 May, Minister da Costa asserted Timor-Leste’s commitment to the right of Western Sahara and Palestine peoples to self-determination

 Mr. da Costa also highlighted  the necessity to improve human rights, democracy and the rule, calling on NAM to revitalize the organization in order to effectively respond to contemporary global challenges

Timor-Leste joined NAM in 2003, and there are currently 118 members. This meeting will also approve the membership of Azerbaijan and Fiji into the group, raising the total membership to 120. (SPS)
