Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps) May 28, 2011 (SPS) - Polisario Front renewed Friday its readiness to cooperate with the UN secretary general and his personal envoy, Christopher Ross, to accelerate the decolonization in Western Sahara and enable the Saharawis of their inalienable right of self-determination and independence, during a meeting of its bureau.
According to a statement concluded the meeting, the Bureau focused on the invitation of the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Ambassador Christopher Ross, for the Saharawi party to attend the seventh round of negotiations, which will be held from June 5 to 7 in Manhasset, in addition to the latest developments in the occupied territories.
The statement strongly condemned the acts of repression and barbarity committed by the Moroccan state against the defenseless Saharawi civilians, more recently the brutal intervention against Saharawi peaceful demonstration last May 25 in occupied city of Boujdour, confirming that these grave acts “do not reflect a sincere intention to create an atmosphere of trust for a serious and genuine negotiations.”
It demanded the urgent intervention to stop the gross violations of human rights committed by the Moroccan government, release Yahia Mohamed Hafed and all the Saharawi political prisoners as well as unveil the whereabouts of more than 661 missing.
It also called for accelerating the establishment of a UN mechanism to guarantee security and freedom for the Saharawi citizens in the occupied Western Sahara, through extending the task of MINURSO (French acronym for, the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara) to include monitoring of human right and report about it.
The meeting, which was held Friday, chaired by the President of Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz. (SPS)
