Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), May 26, 2011 (SPS) – Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), took part in the special session of the African Union Assembly on peace and security in the continent, held Wednesday in the AU headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

In his intervention before the session, Dr. Jean Ping, AU Commission Chairperson, recalled that the action plan of Tripoli in 2009 remains the frame of reference for the policy and role to be played by the AU institutions in dealing with conflicts and seeking to resolve them through peaceful means.

Tripoli plan reiterates the initial position of the African Union on the Sahrawi question and commitment and support of the Union for the self-determination referendum in Western Sahara as the only peaceful solution to the conflict in line with the resolutions of the Security Council and General Assembly.

The SADR was represented at the session by a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, the SADR Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, and members of Sahrawi diplomatic mission. (SPS)
