Chahid El-Hafed (Sahrawi Republic) 01 December 2024 (SPS) - A delegation from the African Union’s Commission for Political Affairs, Peace & Security began a visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps on Sunday as part of a multi-day working visit to institutions of the Sahrawi Republic.

The visit, conducted under the Maputo Protocol, aims to familiarize the delegation with Sahrawi institutions. The delegation held a meeting with the Minister of Social Affairs and Women’s Empowerment, H.E. Mrs. Suelma Beiruk.

During the meeting, Mrs. Suelma Beiruk reaffirmed the Sahrawi state's commitments regarding women’s issues, emphasizing that these commitments are firmly established on the ground.

She highlighted the ability of Sahrawi women to assume their responsibilities and demonstrate their skills and competencies at all levels and across various fields.

Accompanied by the Sahrawi Permanent Representative to the African Union and Ambassador to Ethiopia, H.E. Mr. Lamine Baali, the delegation is scheduled to make field visits to women’s centers in the Wilayas of Smara and Auserd.

It will also tour institutions such as the National Museum of Resistance and the Association of Families of Sahrawi Prisoners and Disappeared Persons.

The delegation will also meet with representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Religious Affairs, Youth and Sports, Religious Affairs, and Economic Development.

A delegation from the AU Peace and Security Council on a working visit to the institutions of the Sahrawi Republic

Chahid El Hafed (Sahrawi Republic) 01 December 2024 (SPS) - A delegation from the African Union’s Peace and Security Council of the African Union began a visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps starting yesterday, Sunday, as part of a working visit to the institutions of the Sahrawi Republic.

The delegation's visit, which comes within the framework of the Maputo Protocol, aims to learn about the Sahrawi institutions in this regard, as the delegation held a meeting with the Minister of Social Affairs and Women's Promotion, H.E. Mrs. Suelma Beiruk.

During the meeting, Suelma Beiruk stressed the commitments of the Sahrawi state regarding women, stressing that it is a well-established field reality, as Sahrawi women are able to assume the responsibilities entrusted to them and embody their capabilities and competencies at all levels and areas of national action.

The delegation, accompanied by the Sahrawi Permanent Representative to the African Union and Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Lamen Abba Ali, will conduct field visits to the women's home centers in the provinces of Smara and Awsard, and will also conduct field tours of some institutions, including the National Museum of Resistance, and the Association of Guardians of Sahrawi Detainees and Missing Persons. The delegation is expected to meet during its visit, which comes within the framework of its interest in the extent of implementation of the Maputo Protocol, representatives of the Ministries of Justice and Religious Affairs, the Ministry Delegate for Religious Affairs, and Economic Development.
