48th Conference of European Associations of Solidarity with Sahrawi People concludes with  commitment to support Sahrawi people

Lisbon (Portugal), November 30, 2024 (SPS) - The activities of the 48th Conference of the European Associations of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People concluded today, Saturday, in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, emphasizing the support for the Sahrawi people in various fields of solidarity.

After the work of the four workshops formed during the Conference to define their areas of focus and prepare a comprehensive evaluation according to the specified fields of the solidarity movement for the year 2024, as well as to lay the groundwork for conclusions and work plans for the upcoming year 2025, the first part of the closing session included contributions from the participating delegations, which unanimously agreed on the necessity of enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their legitimate right to freedom and independence.

The Conference also expressed its condemnation of the positions of certain countries, such as France and Spain, for violating international law and the right of peoples to self-determination by supporting Moroccan occupation attempts, which represent a blatant abuse of power and an unacceptable violation of international legitimacy.

In its closing statement, the Conference praised the principled and steadfast position of Algeria and its ongoing support for the just struggle of the Sahrawi people for freedom and independence.

In another context, the Conference condemned the acts of genocide committed by the Israeli occupying state against the Palestinian people and reaffirmed its support and solidarity with the Palestinian people.

It was also decided that the next edition of the symposium (the 49th ECA conference) will be held in France.
