Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) October 26, 2024 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Republic participates in 15th AU High-Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace, Security and Stability in Africa, organised under the theme “Impact and Sustainability of AU Preventive Diplomacy and Mediation”.

The Retreat held from the 25th to the 26th of October 2024 in Abidjan, is organised in collaboration with the Government of Côte d’Ivoire.

The Retreat brings together the AU Commission leadership, High/Special Representatives, Envoys, Permanent Representatives, and the Panel of the Wise, as well as Heads of Regional Economic Communities and Mechanisms (RECs/RMs), Special Representatives and Special Envoys of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSGs and SESGs). Special Envoys working in Africa, including from the European Union, League of Arab States, La Francophonie, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, representatives of the AU’s bilateral partners, mediation practitioners and experts, as well as academics and researchers.

The meeting is primarily an interactive gathering on strengthening the role of the African Union in ongoing mediation and other peace processes in Africa.

The format of the retreat discussions will allow for the exchange of views between decision-makers and mediators in the African Union and other relevant actors.

The results of the meeting will be recorded in a report that will be published as part of the African Union Knowledge Management Framework for Mediation Process.

It is noteworthy that the Sahrawi Republic was represented by Ms. Minatou Larbas Sweidat, Member of the African Women's Network Organization.
