President Brahim Ghali offers condolences to his counterpart Vladimir Putin on death of Russian ambassador to Algeria

Bir Lehlou (Liberated Territories), July 05, 2024 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, sent a message of condolence to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in which he expressed his condolences on the death of the Russian ambassador to Algeria, Valerian Shuvaev.

President Brahim Ghali offered his condolences to the Russian government, nation and to the family of the late Ambassador Valerian Shuvaev, expressing his most sincere feelings of sympathy.

The President of the Republic added in his message, "The Russian Federation lost today, with the death of its ambassador, our friend Valerian Shuvaev, a patriotic man and a seasoned politician, one of the best men, who represented his country and his people in the best way”. He was continued the message “understanding, a fighter, modest and bold in his approach and adhered to humanitarian principles without forgetting the national duty, which constituted a priority outside his motherland - the Russian Federation."

He also pointed out that despite the short time and constraints from Morocco; he was the first to visit the Sahrawi refugee camps to see on the spot the reality and suffering of the Sahrawi refugees.

Today, after his passing away – said the message - we assure you that we have lost a friend, who confirmed that the doors of the Russian Federation Embassy are open to the Sahrawis and was understanding of our reality and ready to develop bilateral relations, based on what serves the national interests of the two countries.

The Russian Ambassador to Algeria, Valerian Shuvaev, passed away suddenly at the age of 69.

Russia Today channel quoted a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, which read: "The leadership of the Ministry and the Middle East and North Africa Department announces with deep regret the sudden death of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria on July 3, 2024 in Algeria."
