Toledo (Spain) 3 December 2023 (SPS) - The 47th Conference of the European Coordination for Support and Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (EUCOCO) was successful, after two days of works that wrapped up on Saturday evening in Toledo (Spain), with the adoption of a series of recommendations affirming the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and welcoming Algeria’s role vis-à-vis just causes, notably the Sahrawi cause.
The participants in the EUCOCO’s works, held under the slogan “the independence is the only solution,” stressed the necessity of emphasizing the struggle of the Sahrawi people against the Moroccan occupier through media outlets, social networks, insisting on the organization of training sessions for the Sahrawi people in order to make the voice of their voice heard abroad and depict the situation in the occupied Sahrawi territories.
In a statement to APS, the ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to Algeria Abdelkader Taleb Omar affirmed that the 47th EUCOCO was “a big success.”
He cited as an evidence the distinguished and diversified participation of about 300 participants from around the world, including the representatives of the governments recognizing SADR, European MPs, political and trade union organizations, associations of friendship with the Sahrawi people, non-governmental organizations, jurists, journalists and culture personalities, in addition to parliaments of influential countries.
Abdelkader Taleb Omar underlined several points that prove the success of this conference, like the timing which coincides with the holding of a parliamentary conference at the headquarters of the Spanish Parliament, which has expressed several times its support in favor of the Sahrawi people’s struggle and its rejection of the Spanish Prime minister’s position on the Sahrawi cause, which is against the consensus expressed by his country.
“The holding of the Conference in Spain, after forming the new Spanish government, under the leadership of Pedro Sanchez, shows the strength of the Spanish solidarity movement at imposing its opinion and expressing its solidarity with the Sahrawi people,” he added.
