Opening of the 1st International Forum for Cultural Exchange for Peace in Sahrawi refugee camps

Boujdour (refugee camps), October 24, 2023 (SPS) - The First International Forum for Cultural Exchange for Peace opened yesterday in Sahrawi refugee camps under the slogan “Peace in the Family,” in the presence of researchers and intellectuals from Algeria, the United States of America, Russia, Germany, Britain and Spain.

The Governor of the wilaya of Boujdour, Mrs. Al-Dih Mohamed Shaddad, welcomed the delegations participating in this forum, stressing that the Wilaya of Boujdour provided all the needed materials for the success of this first edition of the forum in the Sahrawi refugee camps.

Mrs. Al-Dih Mohamed Shaddad expressed her hope that the International Forum for Cultural Exchange would achieve the desired results and aspirations in the service of peace as a principle of respect for peoples.

The Minister of Culture, Mr. Moussa Salma, explained in the opening speech that the forum is one of the important mechanisms with humanitarian dimensions that receive wide attention from the international community, attributing this to its connection and integration with the topic of dialogue between cultures and civilizations. In addition, says the Sahrawi Minister, it is an opportunity for everyone to move forward together towards accepting different identities on the basis of common universal values based on equality and justice.

Musa Salma added that this forum is a platform to highlight cultural diversity among peoples, create the opportunity to develop relations between peoples and nations, and establish solid rules for international cooperation on the basis of full respect for the spiritual, cultural and civilizational specificities of each society.

The forum will include workshops to discuss the concept of the family in Sahrawi society with the participation of the countries participating in the forum, in addition to a variety of lectures and meetings.

The First International Forum for Cultural Exchange for Peace is an opportunity to anticipate the future and search for commonalities that consolidate the values of tolerance and understanding and establish the foundation for building stable and solid foundations for real dialogue between peoples and nations in order to serve peace.

It also plays an important role in achieving solidarity among humanity to overcome the challenges and dangers to which the world is exposed and which threaten the peoples of the world, especially in light of the international and regional changes that the world is experiencing, such as wars and crises.
