Caracas, 22 March 2023 (SPS) - The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, reaffirmed Tuesday the commitment of his country to defend the Sahrawi cause and all the causes of liberation, until the completion of decolonization.
The Venezuelan president made this statement while welcoming his Sahrawi counterpart, Brahim Ghali, at the presidential palace in Caracas.
"We are committed to defending the Saharawi cause", stressed President Maduro, affirming that his government's support for the Saharawi people was "unwavering and absolute" and "will continue until the completion of the decolonization process".
For his part, the Saharawi President indicated: "We remain open, in Western Sahara, to a peaceful, political and negotiable solution", but "we will continue, however, resistance by all means for the recovery of our sovereignty and our inalienable right to self-determination and independence".
The two Presidents discussed, during their talks, the bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to promote them at the highest level in the interests of the two peoples and brotherly countries. They also reviewed the latest developments of the Sahrawi issue at all levels, especially in this context marked by a direct confrontation with the Moroccan occupier after the resumption of the armed struggle in 2020.
The two parties also discussed all issues of common interest, including at the international level.
The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, began Sunday a state visit to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, at the invitation of its President, Mr. Nicolás Maduro.
The President of the Republic is accompanied by an important delegation comprising members of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Sidati and Fatima al-Mahdi, respectively Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Cooperation, as well as the Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic, Abdati Breirika, the Ambassador in charge of Latin America and the Caribbean, Mohamed Zroug and ambassador to Venezuela, Mohamed Salem Rgueibi.
Venezuela recognized the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) as an independent state in August 1980 and in December 1982 the two countries established diplomatic relations, it should be recalled.
