Boumerdes, August 23, 2017 (SPS) - President of the Saharawi Republic Brahim Gali called on Tuesday in Boumerdes for the "immediate" implementation of the recent Security Council decision on the resumption of negotiations between the Frente POLISARIO and Morocco, stressing his willingness to cooperate with the new Secretary-General's Personal Envoy Horst Kohler.
"I call for the immediate implementation of the recent decision of the UN Security Council on the resumption of direct negotiations between the two parties to the conflict, namely the Frente POLISARIO and Morocco, and on the examination of the consequences of the violation by Morocco of the military convention 01 and the ceasefire agreement in the Guerguerat," Gali said during his speech at the closing ceremony of the Summer School of the executives of the Frente POLISARIO and the Saharawi State.
"The UN is responsible for the decolonization of the last occupied African state and must implement the UN-OAU settlement plan drafted in 1991, which stipulates the holding of a referendum on the self-determination of the Saharawi people," he stated.
"We hope that the appointment of former German President Horst Kohler as the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General will be an opportunity to accelerate this mission," he said.
Besides, the Saharawi President referred to the responsibility of the French State which, unfortunately, has adopted a position supporting the Moroccan occupier for years, considering that "France must from now on take a responsible position as a permanent member of the UN Security Council in order to achieve peace and stability while respecting international legality and the international humanitarian law."
The Saharawi President also said that the Moroccan occupier "represents a danger to the entire region, because of its expansionist policy based on violence and aggression," stressing that "the narcotic drugs provided by the Kingdom of Morocco, the world's largest cannabis producer, is a key factor in financing organized crime gangs and terrorist groups in the region and in the Sahel."SPS
