Algiers, 9 November 2020 (SPS) - Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in Algeria, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, described Saturday the opening by some countries of diplomatic representations in the occupied Sahrawi territories, particularly in El-Ayoun, as "heckling" without legal implications," saying it is a flagrant violation of international law by the Moroccan regime.
In an interview with the newspaper Echorouk El-Youmi, the Sahrawi ambassador recalled, about the opening by the United Arab Emirates of a consulate in the occupied city of El-Ayoun, that "Western Sahara is recognized by the African Union as a state in its own right and is considered by the United Nations as a non-autonomous territory under Moroccan occupation. Therefore, neither Morocco nor any other state can take a position outside this framework, he stressed.
To a question on the legal implications of opening diplomatic representations in the occupied city of El-Ayoun, Taleb Omar called it "heckling" without legal implications, arguing that "no state can legitimize the Moroccan occupation."
According to him, the opening of consulates and embassies in occupied countries is a Zionist idea.
The Zionists, he said, have supported and guided Morocco to drag the negotiations and empty them of their substance. (SPS)
