New York, January 14, 2019 (SPS) - The United Nations denied Morocco’s allegations regarding the ceasefire violations by the Polisario Front, stating that the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) has not recorded any incident which may constitute a violation to the terms of applicable agreements.
“The UN Mission, MINURSO, was present during the two alleged incidents and didn’t notice anything that could constitute a violation to the terms of the applicable agreements,” said the UN Spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, during a press briefing in New York.
Dujarric said that there is a procedure established by the Minusro to assess such allegations, this latter is based on observation and impartial monitoring functions,” of the UN Mission’s employees, he added.
The incidents identified as violation to the applicable agreements are shared with parties for their immediate action, a process that has been effective in preventing conflict and maintaining the ceasefire since its establishment,” he said.
Morocco sent a letter to the Security Council in which it wrongly accused the Polisario Front of violating the ceasefire for organizing military maneuvers on the 6th of January in Mhiriz and inaugurating Administrative locals in this locality situated in the Sahrawi liberated territories. (SPS)
