Columbia University hosts a conference on issue

New York, Oct. 1 (SPS) - A conference on Western Sahara was organized yesterday by the International Students Committee of Columbia University in New York, attended by a group of university students, community members and the Sahrawi Association of the United States.
The conference began with a lecture entitled "Western Sahara: the last colony in Africa", delivered by Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, representative of the Frente POLISARIO to the United Nations, in which he gave a presentation on the Sahrawi issue in its historical, political, legal and humanitarian dimensions.
For his part, Mr. Mohamed Ali Arkuk, President of the Saharawi Association of the United States of America, has also addressed the human rights situation in the occupied territories of Western Sahara and the role of its association towards the American public.
Dr. Malainin Salama Nayem, representing the POLISARIO´s representative at the United Nations, addressed the humanitarian consequences of the continued Moroccan occupation on the Sahrawi people in the refugee camps and occupied areas of Western Sahara.
The conference concluded after in-depth discussion in which the lecturers responded to the audience's questions, which focused on the various aspects of the Sahrawi issue and its historical, political, legal and humanitarian dimensions.
