New York (United States), Sept 28, 2021 (SPS) - Algeria renewed its firm position in defending the legitimate causes of the peoples who fight and resist to regain their most basic rights and self-determination, especially in Palestine and Western Sahara.
In his speech delivered Monday before the UN General Assembly 76th Session, Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra said that “Algeria has been involved in many regional and international efforts aimed at addressing the root causes of these conflicts and disputes, with in order to achieve stability in its regional and international environment, defending the values of dialogue, negotiation and national reconciliation, and will continue to defend the just causes of the peoples who fight and resist to recover their basic rights and self-determination ”.
“With regard to the conflict in Western Sahara, Algeria reiterates its position of support for the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, calling on the United Nations to assume its legal responsibilities towards the Saharawi people and guarantee their inalienable rights, through the organization of a free and fair referendum, to allow the Sahrawi people to exercise their self-determination and determine their political future ”, said Lamamra.
"The Saharawi people cannot forever remain hostage to the intransigence of an occupying country that has repeatedly failed to comply with its international obligations, especially those emanating from the Settlement Plan, sponsored by the United Nations, with the support of the Organization of African Unity (African Union) and all relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the General Assembly ”, concluded the Foreign Minister of Algeria.
