Royal House of Mandela supports NEHAWU demonstration in support of Western Sahara at the Moroccan Embassy in Pretoria

Cape Town, (South Africa) 31 July 2019 (SPS)- Mr. Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, President of the Royal House of Mandela, declared in a press release on Tuesday, that its House supports the call by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) to “demonstrate at the Moroccan Embassy demanding an end to Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara, Africa's last colony.”
The House called on “all South Africans to show their support and come out in big numbers. We cannot allow this violation of international law to go unchallenged. The illegal occupation must end now,” the press release reads.
The Grandson of Mandela considered that South Africans “must put pressure on the Pan African Parliament and the African Union to act decisively and force Morocco as a member state to end the occupation, release all political prisoners, allow the return of all refugees and hold a referendum on self-determination without further delay in accordance with the UN Resolutions.”
The House recalled that “Morocco had a long standing relationship with the Apartheid regime in South Africa and continues to have a relationship with Apartheid Israel”, and therefore it supports NEHAWU’s demonstration for the rights of the Saharawi people to self-determination.
In the same vein, the Royal House of Mandela further condemns “the continued human rights violations by Morocco including the violence meted out by the Moroccan security forces on the Saharawi people, who were celebrating the victory of the Algerian national soccer team at the African Cup of Nations on July 19.”
The Royal House of Mandela called on all Africans to support the struggle of the Saharawi people, considering that “it's a disgrace that one of our member states Morocco persists in denying the Sahrawi People their right of self-determination.”
The House, finally, asserted that it “will carry on the struggle to free Western Sahara from occupation driven by the example of President Nelson Mandela who called for the freedom of the Sahrawi people and an end to human suffering all over the world.”
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) will be demonstrating at the Spanish and Moroccan embassies on Wednesday 31st July, and outside South African Parliament in Cape Town, South Africa.
The protests will form part of the union's "solidarity programme", said Nehawu's national spokesperson, Khaya Xaba, on Monday.
