EL Aaiun (Refugee Camps), 13 November 2022 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, affirmed Sunday in the wilaya of El-Aaiun, Sahrawi refugee camps, that the Polisario Front "cannot deal with any approach aimed at violating international legitimacy."
"The Polisario Front reiterates its readiness to cooperate with the efforts of the United Nations aimed at decolonizing Western Sahara," President Brahim Ghali said in a speech during the opening of the Third Conference on Sahrawi Youth Policies, stressing that "it cannot in any way deal with any approach aimed at violating international legitimacy and confiscating the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence."
Mr. Ghali held the UN Security Council responsible for putting an end to the "stalemate" for which "some of its members bear full responsibility", calling on the Council to enable the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to "perform the mission assigned to it and thus to oblige the occupying state of Morocco immediately to lift all restrictions and conditions that prevent the implementation of the UN-AU settlement plan of 1991, the only one that was accepted by the Sahrawi and Moroccan parties, and approved by the UN Security Council.
In his speech, the Sahrawi President called on the African Union to intensify efforts to end the last colonialism in Africa, expressing “the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic’s readiness to work to resolve the existing conflict with its neighbor, the Kingdom of Morocco, as two member countries of the continental organization, in strict adherence to the principles of the Constitutive Act of the Union, while respecting the borders inherited after independence, mutual respect and good neighborliness.
The Secretary-General of the Polisario Front also urged the European Union to "abide by the provisions of international law and international humanitarian law in general and in particular the decisions of the European Court of Justice regarding the legal status of Western Sahara as a separate and distinct country from the Kingdom of Morocco, and no party has the right to sign any agreement, in any field, with the Moroccan party, affecting the Sahrawi territories."
The activities of the Third Conference on Sahrawi Youth Policies are attended by foreign delegations from many countries and bear the slogan, "Youth and Completion of Battle of Liberation and Construction - Reality, Challenges and Prospects", which coincides with the second anniversary of the resumption of the armed struggle by the Sahrawi people.
The Conference lasts three days and includes several workshops on topics related to youth.
