Boumerdes (Algeria), August 18, 2018 (SPS) - Morocco, which “does not take any initiative” for a peaceful settlement of the Western Sahara conflict, “cannot continue impeding the UN advocated negotiation process” by imposing same conditions and pursuing the plundering of Western Sahara's wealth, said Wednesday Premier of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Mohamed Ouali Akik.
“Morocco does not take any initiative to find a peaceful solution to the decolonization of Western Sahara but instead seeks to maintain status quo and continues to plunder Western Sahara’s wealth to the detriment of the Sahrawi people which do not live in dignity and freedom,” Ouali Akik told the press on the sidelines of the 9th Summer University of executives and militants of the Polisario Front and SADR in the province of Boumerdes.
“Morocco continues to hinder the negotiation process and has already started imposing conditions, notably autonomy. The kingdom must fulfill its commitments vis-à-vis UN resolutions”, he continued.
The Sahrawi PM also denounced some European parties’ manœuvres to circumvent the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), which reaffirmed three times that Western Sahara and Morocco are “distinct and separate” territories
All Morocco’s attempts to illegally exploit Western Sahara’s resource “are doomed to fail because they illegitimate, especially as the unique and legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, namely the Polisario Front, is the only party entitled to deal foreign companies willing to invest in the country’s.”
Referring to the Summer University, Akik said that the strong presence of different political forces (parties, civil society organizations and diplomatic corps accredited in Algiers) "shows the solidarity of the Algerian people and leaders with the Sahrawi cause.”
Besides, the Sahrawi PM strongly denounced "the repressive colonial practices" of the Moroccan occupying State against defenceless Sahrawi civilians, stressing that "the suffering of the Sahrawi people still persists because of the continued occupation of their lands, exodus, repression, persecution, confiscation of freedoms and plundering of natural resources.” (SPS)
