Brussels, 12 September 2021 (SPS) - The European Department of Foreign Relations of the Polisario Front supervised on Saturday at the representation headquarters in Brussels, an important meeting that brought together the heads of the Sahrawi delegations in various of European countries and the Front's defense body before the European judiciary.
During the meeting, which was devoted to discussing the future of the legal battle of Polisario, member of the Polisario defense body, Gilles Devers, gave a detailed presentation on the legal battle that has been taking place at the level of the European Court of Justice for years, as well as the positive results that were achieved before the court, especially the years 2015, 2016 and 2018 in order to impose respect for the exclusive sovereignty of the Sahrawi people over its natural resources and national territory.
Mr. Devers highlighted a set of important points that came in the previous rulings of the European Court of Justice, the most prominent of which was the affirmation of the sovereignty of the Sahrawi people over their natural resources and the legal status of Western Sahara as a distinct and separate territory from Morocco, as well as the recognition of the legal status of the Polisario Front and its right to defend the Sahrawi people before the judiciary.
He also stressed that the results achieved over the past years are of great importance today and reinforce the Polisario's position with regard to its appeals it lodged before the European Court of Justice against the illegal agreements between the Council of the European Union and the occupying state - the Kingdom of Morocco - which includes the territory and territorial waters of Western Sahara without the consent of the Sahrawi people.
Member of Polisario's defense body expressed his optimism about the judgments expected to be issued by the Court of Justice in Luxembourg, on appeals related to the two illegal agreements.
The meeting also emphasized the importance and necessity of developing a common and effective road map and strategy for action among the various partners in order to put an end to the illegal exploitation of the resources of the Sahrawi people by the Moroccan occupation, and the complicity of the European Union in such action, which contributes to the consolidation of the military occupation of Western Sahara and undermines efforts for the peaceful settlement of the long-standing conflict.
