Shahid Al-Hafed, 25 February 2022 (SPS) – President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, called Thursday for a genuine Arab solidarity with the Sahrawi people in its legitimate struggle for self-determination and independence of Western Sahara, stressing that the Moroccan occupation state poses a serious threat to peace and stability in the region and the world.
In a speech delivered at the closure of the work of the Arab Conference of Solidarity with the Sahrawi people in Shahid El-Hafedh, President Ghali said that "the Sahrawi people will keep forever in its collective memory this commendable initiative, believing that this conference "brings us even closer to a goal that, although it seems difficult to achieve, is not impossible" through the rich debate to which it gave rise around the challenges and prospects of Arab solidarity with the Sahrawi people.
The Sahrawi president addressed, in his speech to the participants in this conference, the developments that the cause of the Sahrawi people, especially since November 13, 2020, when "the Moroccan occupation state violated the ceasefire agreement between the two Sahrawi and Moroccan armies. Thus, the Sahrawi people was forced, once again, as it happened in 1975, to resume the armed struggle against the Moroccan aggressor.
For President Ghali, the Sahrawi people "has been waiting for more than thirty years, with patience and collaboration, for the United Nations to implement its commitments and responsibilities, to enable it to exercise its right to self-determination and independence, like all peoples and colonized countries, because," he added, "we have suffered injustice and we have seen how active parties at the level of the Security Council, led by France, impose the logic of managing the crisis instead of solving it.
The Sahrawi president condemned attempts to transform the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) into "a mere tool for legitimizing the reality of illegal Moroccan military occupation of parts of the territory of the Sahrawi Republic and the protection of all the aggressive and colonial practices of the Moroccan occupation state, as repression, blockade, looting, settlements and others," considering that "the disturbing international silence", vis-à-vis the serious violations of human rights committed by the Moroccan occupation state against the defenseless Sahrawis in the occupied parts of the Arab Republic, is proof of this.
President Ghali praised the heroic resistance of the Sahrawi people in occupied territories, like Soltana Khaya and other heroines of the Independence Intifidha, led by the heroes of the epic of Gdim Izik and all the Sahrawi civilian prisoners in Moroccan jails".
He also welcomed the new impetus in the occupied territories and southern Morocco, such as what is happening in Dakhla, Boudjdour, El Aaiun and Smara to reject the criminal policies of the Moroccan occupation state which, in addition to abductions, enforced disappearances, assassinations and genocides, targets the land and property of Sahrawi citizens.
"The Moroccan occupation state demonstrates that it constitutes a threat to peace and stability in the region and around the world, by persisting in its expansionism in Western Sahara and facilitating the infiltration of its allies to carry out its Machiavellian plans that threaten the security and stability of our peoples and our countries," he stressed.
The Sahrawi president welcomed the positions of countries that support the Sahrawi issue and its people in its struggle for independence.
He expressed his thanks and appreciation to Algeria, its people and government, for its honorable positions.
He welcomed the position of South Africa, symbol of the struggle against apartheid, in favor of the struggle of the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples for their right to self-determination and independence. The Sahrawi president also thanked Mauritania which, he recalled, was present from the beginning of the first war of liberation against the occupation.
Finally, Mr. Ghali affirmed that "the Sahrawi people have no grudge against the brotherly Moroccan people and we aspire to get rid of injustice and tyranny and build close relations based on brotherhood, good neighborliness and mutual respect between two brotherly Arab and African countries as well as with all countries and peoples of the region.
