Madrid, Nov. 28, 2016 (SPS) - Over 4.4 tons of humanitarian aid, mainly made up of foodstuffs were sent Monday to the Sahrawi refugee camps by Spanish associations friends with the Sahrawi people, said the president of Burgos city, Maite Gimenez.
This aid is the result of a common work by the associations of Palencia, Avila, Valladollid and Burgos, added Gimenez.
Like every year, those associations’ work for raising awareness and charity enabled us to collect a significant quantity of products, including medical and school materials and food staples like rice.
Maite Gimenez affirmed that "the humanitarian aid is crucial for the Sahrawis as the conflict is lingering and so solution was not reached."
The "current situation in the Sahrawi refugee camps has not changed for years," Gimenez said adding that the « situation doesn’t progress and the people, notably the youth are tired."
The president of the Burgos Association friend with the Saharawi people also underlined that "the United Nations has not yet done anything to enforce the international resolutions leading to the holding of a self-determination referendum for the Sahrawi people.” (SPS)
