Algiers, May 31, 2011 (SPS) - Algerian Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia, said Sunday that the opening of land borders between Algeria and Morocco is "not on the agenda." It "will happen one day or another," simply said Ouyahia, during a press conference, but stated that the reopening of the border do "not dependent on the Western Sahara issue."
"We need an atmosphere of good faith and mutual trust among neighbours (...) but the latest Moroccan official statements accusing Algeria of financing African mercenaries in Libya, are unfortunately not encouraging this trend," the Prime Minister underlined.
Ouyahia noted that despite closed borders, the official volume of trade between the two countries remained "high" and ranked "first in the Algerian trade balance with other African countries. " (SPS)
