El Aaiun (Occupied Territories) June 1, 2011 (SPS) – The Moroccan police expelled Sunday two Spanish journalists from the occupied city of El Aaiun for trying to make a report on torture and human rights violations imposed on the Sahrawi in the territories under the Moroccan occupation.

"There is no freedom in Western Sahara and Morocco is trying to hide torture," said journalist Raquel Ramirez after she returned from El Aaiun, the occupied capital of Western Sahara, where she had tried to make a report about torture and violations of human rights on which she collected evidence of Sahrawi victims of repression in Morocco.

The Spanish journalist was subjected to repression and forced with another journalist from Madrid to leave the city of El Aaiun for Madrid. The Moroccan police had closely monitored the two Spanish journalists, threatening with reprisals the Sahrawi activists who welcomed them.

"We tried to meet with activists, but it was impossible because we were always monitored by members of the secret police, even in the bus that took us back to Marrakech. (SPS)
