Rabat, June 20, 2011 (SPS) - Protests organized Sunday by the February 20 Movement in many Moroccan cities faced repression, when pro-monarchy supporters attacked the protesters, international media reported.
Hundreds of Moroccan King’s supporters chased the protesters in Rabat streets throwing stones and eggs at them.
Thousands of protesters, who reject the constitutional reforms proposed by the King, marched through Casablanca streets carrying banners that read: "No to a constitution made for slaves!", "No to a constitution of dictatorship!", and "We are not voting for a constitution we don't agree to!"
"We are here to reject the proposed constitution," said Aziz Yaakoubi, one of the organizers of Sunday's protest in Casablanca, adding "it keeps all the powers in the hands of the king, who refused to listen to the street."
The demonstrations came two days after the Moroccan King announced Friday, in a television address, a set of proposed constitutional reforms in response to calls by February 20 Movement. (SPS)
