Opening of 19th ordinary session of AU Executive Council

Malabo (Equatorial Guinea) June 27, 2010 (SPS) - The 19th ordinary session of the African Union Executive Council opened its works Sunday in the capital of Equatorial Guinea, Malabo.

The opening session was attended by the Prime Minister of Equatorial Guinea, Mr. Ignacio Milam Tang, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophone Affairs, Mr. Pastor Micha Ondo Bile, Deputy of UN Secretary-General in charge of African Economic Commission, Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro, and Chairperson of the AU Commission, Dr. Jean Ping, as well as ministers and representatives of African and international bodies.

During the opening day’s deliberations, the AU Executive Council discussed and approved the report submitted by the Commission president from June to July 2011.

The report included paragraph on the situation in Western Sahara, where it affirmed the AU position towards Saharawi cause in support of self-determination referendum in Western Sahara in order to reach to a peaceful solution in accordance with the international legality.

It is note worthy that the AU Commission report is the core document that evaluates and outlines the main lines of the African Union policies in all political, economic and social fields.

The Saharawi Republic (SADR) was represented by a delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, Minister Delegate in charge of African Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beisat, Ambassador in Ethiopian and Permanent Representative to the AU, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar. (SPS)
