Copenhagen, September 15, 2011 (SPS) - The Head of Section in the Department of North Africa and Middle East (MENA) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Mrs. Anne Chouw received Wednesday the POLISARIO Front Representative in Denmark, Mr. Abba Malainin, according to a statement of the POLISARIO Front Representation in Denmark.

Mr. Abba Malainin at the beginning of the meeting expressed the appreciation of POLISARIO Front and the people of Western Sahara to the stand of the actual Government of Denmark against the one year extension of the illegal EU-Morocco Fisheries Agreement that include the waters of Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa. This stand shows that Denmark respects the international law and for sure it is in the right direction that will contribute to end the illegal exploitation of the Saharawi natural resources.

The discussions centered on the latest  political developments of the issue of Western Sahara, the Moroccan systematic violations of Human Rights in the occupied territory, the terrible situation of the Saharawi human rights activists in different prisons in Morocco who are deprived from fair trials and the essential rights, also the discussions tackled the humanitarian situation of the Saharawi refugees and the recent Motion for Resolution supported by 77 Members of the European Parliament demanding the EU-Morocco Fisheries Partnership Agreement (FPA) to be taken to the European Court of Justice, for an advisory opinion on its validity under international law.

The Polisario Representative also in the meeting refuted the Moroccan propaganda claiming that Polisario soldiers have assisted Ghadafi troops in Libya he further said that this issue was also refuted recently by the President of the Libyan Transitional National Council (TNC), Mr. Mustafa Abdeljalil, who recently said “We are not aware of any presence of the Polisario Front or assistance to Muammar Gaddafi and we can not accuse any one in this matter.”

It is worth noting here that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Mrs. Lene Espersen has several times said that “Denmark supports the UN efforts to find a mutually acceptable solution based on the principle of self-determination for the Saharawi people”, “Denmark supports that MINURSO is given a mandate by the UN to monitor and report about the situation of human rights in Western Sahara” she also expressed the preoccupation of Denmark about the situation of human rights in Western Sahara after crack-down of the Moroccan security forces of the Saharawi peaceful protest Camps of Agdaim Izik.
