Shaheed El Hafed (Sahrawi refugee camps), October 27, 2011 (SPS) - The Sahrawi government blamed Wednesday the terrorist organization AQMI (al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb for the abduction of the three European aid workers.
The Sahrawi Government declared in a statement issued by the Ministry of Information that "the information and data available to the Sahrawi authorities indicate that al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb is responsible for the terrorist attack and the kidnapping of the three European aid workers in the night from Saturday to Sunday."
The Sahrawi Government confirmed that it "continues its efforts for the liberation and rescue of the three victims of terrorism along with neighboring countries through intensified cooperation and coordination in order to achieve this goal."
The statement added that "the Saharawi people and government and the Polisario Front reiterate their strong condemnation of this barbaric act of terrorism which aimed at them and targeted three Europeans aid collaborators who came on a noble humanitarian mission to alleviate the suffering of the Saharawi people."
The three hostages were two Spanish nationals Fernandez Coin Aino, member of the Association of Friendship with the Saharawi people in Extremadura (Spain), Enrico Gonyalons, from Mundubat NGO, and Rossella Urru from Italy, member of the Italian NGO CCISP, all of whom worked for humanitarian projects in the Sahrawi refugee camps.
The attack targeted the headquarters of two non-governmental organizations where three European aid workers were kidnapped. The kidnappers used four-wheel drive vehicle and firearms. During the attack Spanish Enrico Gonyalons injured as well as Sahrawi guard Omar Ahmed Mohammed. (SPS
