African MPs call for missions to monitor human rights situation in occupied Western Sahara

Addis Abeba, Jan 19, 2012 (SPS) - The Group of North Africa in the Pan African Parliament (PAP) has called on AU legislative body to send missions to monitor the human rights situation in occupied Western Sahara, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt.


In a statement concluded its meeting held Monday in Adiss Ababa, the group asked the PAP to maintain support for political reforms in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt.


It also called for the support of the Saharawi people in their struggle to self-determination and independence.

 

The meeting is part of the work of the sixth ordinary session of PAP wish devoted to assess the political situation in Western Sahara, Tunisia, Egypt and Libya.


The Pan-African Parliament is one of the ten Organs of the African Union provided for by its Constitutive Act. (SPS)
