Seville (Spain), Feb 4, 2012 (SPS) - President of the Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with the Saharawi People (CNASPS), Mr. Mehrez Lamari, called Friday from Seville, Spain, on the international community and United Nations to shoulder their responsibilities towards the conflict in Western Sahara.

Speaking during the opening of the 37th European Coordination Conference of Support to the Sahrawi Saharawi People (EUCOCO), Mr. Lamari confirmed “each party has to shoulder its responsibilities in particular the United Nations, which has a political and legal responsibility with regard to the population of the non-independent territories such as Western Sahara.”

“The UN must move, overcome the challenges and raise the international legitimacy in order not to lose credibility and hurt its image,” added President of CNASPS.

He also indicated that the position of Algeria towards the conflict in Western Sahara “stems from its attachment to the principles of the Nov 1st, 1945’s revolution, especially with regard to the right of peoples to self-determination.”

The Conference, which is being held on current Feb 3-5 in Seville (Andalusia), is attended by Algerian delegation including deputies from the People’s National Assembly and Council of the Nation led by the Vice-President of the Nation’s Council, Mr. Zidane Mahmoud, along with members of the National Committee of Solidarity with the Saharawi People.
