Madrid, March 29, 2012 (SPS) – The Coordination of the Spanish Associations of solidarity with the Saharawi people (CEAS-Sahara), on Wednesday launched public campaign to demand active role from Spanish government in defending human rights in Western Sahara.

In letter to the Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Manuel García-Margallo,  CEAS-Sahara said that the Ministry is well aware of  the cruel conditions living by the Saharawis under the Moroccan occupation.

"The international community is well aware of the repetition of the Moroccan detainees and when it comes to a Saharawi detainee there is much harassment" wrote The Coordination of the Spanish Associations of solidarity with the Saharawi people.

In this regard, CEAS Sahara “continue condemning the ill treatment and the grave violations against individuals defending the right of their people”.

The coordination recalled the historical and legal ties between the Saharawi people and Spain.

Finally, it called on the Spanish government to put pressure on Moroccan authorities of occupation to end the tragedy of Saharawi political prisoners.

Entitled “liberty for the Saharawi Political Prisoners”, the campaign petition is addressed to all associations, federations, collectives and individuals who support the Saharawi people. To sign the petition : actuable.es
