Polisario Front calls for the immediate application of UN Secretary General report on MINURSO mandate

Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), May 09, 2012 (SPS) - The National Secretariat of the Polisario Front has called for the immediate application of the report of the UN Secretary General to enable MINURSO to accomplish its mission in organizing referendum of self-determination for Saharawi people and protecting human rights in Western Sahara.


In meeting held Tuesday under the chairmanship of President Mohamed Abdelaziz , the National Secretariat emphasized on the content of the report,  affirmed by UN Secretary Council resolution (2044), for the need to obtain more information from independent sources, through allowing free access for diplomats and journalist as well freedom of movement, communication for MINORSO members.


It welcomed the upcoming visit of Special Envoy of UN Secretary General to the region, renewing the Polisario Front’s readiness to cooperate with UN for assuming its responsibility for the decolonization in Western Sahara .


In other context, The Polisario Front expressed hope that the leadership of Francois Hollande will be an opportunity for positive change in relations between France and the Maghreb Arab as well as in dealing with the issue of Western Sahara in accordance with the international law, human rights and the right of peoples to self-determination, as assured the United Nations Charter and international legitimacy.

 

It also called on Spain to play a leading role, consistent with its historical and legal responsibilities towards the Saharawi people and the decolonization of Western Sahara.


The National Secretariat valued the last resolution the European Parliament that demanded an end to the Moroccan repression in Western Sahara, respect the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, and demanded the immediate cessation of looting of natural resources of the Saharawi people by the Moroccan authorities of occupation.


In other context, it condemned all forms of terrorism and the organized crime, particularly smuggling of drugs "which Morocco the first source of this problem in the region."


The Polisario Front expressed deep concern on the serious situation of the brotherly country of Mali, declaring its support for the efforts made within the framework of the African Union in order to restore peace, security and stability. (SPS)
