President of Republic heads to Addis Ababa for 19th African Union Summit

Addis Ababa, July 13, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, left Friday to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to participate at the 19th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, scheduled to take place from 15 to 16 July 2012.


The President of the Republic is accompanied by a high-level delegation composed of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, Minister of Vocational Training, Individuals and Public Service, Ms. Khira Balahi, Minister of Commerce, Mr. Abida Sheikh, Minister Delegate for Africa, Mr. Brahim Mokhtar Boumakhruta, Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to AU, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, Counselor to the Presidency, Mr. Abdati Breika, and the Director of Saguiet El-Hamra’s Centre for Studies, Mr. Baba Mustapha Sayad.


Holding under the theme: “Boosting Intra-African Trade”, the 19th Summit of the African Union will focus on completing recommendations of the previous summit that called for the promotion of intra commercial and industrial development in Africa in the interest of its economy. It will also elect the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and his deputy.


AU Heads of State and Government will examine, during the summit, the political conditions of the continent, particularly the question of Western Sahara, in addition to the situation in Mali, Somalia and Great Lakes. (SPS)
